America's Failing Schools

Parents who have kids in the school system need to ask some serious questions about their local school systems. Are their kids safe, are they truly being educated, and then there is the bullying issue in our school system? Is it safe for our kids to use the bathroom in public school, or even to walk the halls, or eat lunch in the cafeteria?  Apparently, the schools have not been safe for a number of years? If they were the schools would have no need for police officers to be stationed in every school, something that was never heard of years ago.

The fact is our schools are in just that bad of shape. I am so glad that all my kids are out of school and all my grandkids are being homeschooled. The leaders in our schools look for answers to these questions and sad to say they may have a high IQ in their leadership abilities, but they will never be able to solve these problems. The problem started in the home. If you have no family structure in the home how can you have it in the schools?

The government and the school system itself has taken from the teachers the ability and authority to discipline unruly kids. Some years ago if you did not dress or wear your clothes properly you were sent home. Now kids come to school with pants down to almost their knees and they wear what they want, say what they want to, and could care less. Schools are for learning and they are not a social club as some of the kids think.

We do have kids in the school systems that want to learn, they want a good education, and they want to make something out of their lives. But they are trying to learn in an environment that should not be allowed or tolerated. Children need every chance they can get to have a good education before they go out into this world. Out of these schools come the next generation of America's leaders.

This cannot happen by police officers stationed in the schools and students being assaulted in the bathrooms by gangs. A child must be able to feel safe and secure in their surroundings to excel in their learning. Before kids learn in school they must be taught at home the moral and religious values that made this country what it is. A lot of these kids have no home life, no family structure, and no guidance whatsoever. So how can we expect them to be any better in school?  When children disrespect and are unruly to their parents, in the home, or their parents just don't care, how can we expect them to be any different in school?

Kent Island High School Assault

I was so perplexed after reading the article on April 18, 2018 edition of The Star Democrat about the incident at the Stevensville High School entitled Assault at Kent Island High under investigation. In the article Dr. Andrea Kane said that the boys who did this will receive the "appropriate consequences" However in the paper she also stated that" the mission of the juvenile justice system in Maryland is: "guidance, treatment, and rehabilitation". Where does the punishment come in? She dd not mention that. The school system did not even notify the police. Parents of some of the school kids did and that was two or three days later. One day the students are in the school bathroom doing this terrible thing and the next day they will be on the streets like good little citizens protesting second amendment rights while taking Tide-Pod breaks. If the sheriff's department did not get involved most likely the whole incident would soon be forgotten.  The bullying problem in our school system goes far beyond what is reported as we can see by this incident and how it was handled by the school system. No wonder home schooling is growing by leaps and bounds by concerned parents, when I say “concerned parents, I’m talking about parents who are really concerned about their kids, and their kid’s education. The students who really want to learn are being hampered.  "School for a lot of kids is a social meeting place not a place of learning." That is not my statement but a statement made by a substitute teacher at a public meeting where people were addressing the problem which happened in a high school in Cambridge, Maryland a few weeks ago. There was a small riot in the cafeteria and the police were called. These two schools are not 40 miles apart. These kinds of things did not happen years ago in our schools so what has happened? Let me answer that question with another question. Did these things happen when God was allowed in schools? When there was discipline allowed in the schools? No I do not think so. When God was forced out and the Federal Government took over we can see what happen. If you have kids or grandkids going to public schools you need to be in much prayer for them That God will protect them because the school systems will not.

When is it UnAmerican

Our country was founded on principles that all men are created equal. Our founding fathers were visionaries and sought to assure all citizens the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. However, today we have groups that will deny others the right to life, deny others their liberty, and only think they themselves should be able to pursue happiness. Friends, so much of what I see in our country today crushes these values America was built upon.
When a senator can shed tears on the senate floor because there is a policy to vet refugees from terror sponsored countries but remains dry eyed when millions of innocent babies are murdered in the womb—that is un-American.
When our homeless go hungry while illegal aliens can come into this country and receive food stamps, welfare and shelter—that is Un-American
When our elderly must choose between eating or buying their medications while abortions and transgender surgeries are paid for with tax payer money—that is Un-American.
When our troops go without proper equipment while celebrities and athletes protest our country and national anthem—that is un-American.
When our veterans go without benefits that were promised but billions of dollars are given to countries that hate us—that is Un-American.
When Christian companies are forced to compromise their faith and values by serving same sex weddings while other businesses can say, “if you support traditional marriage, don’t shop here.”—that is Un-American.
When radical groups like BLM and anti fa can riot, burn cities and kill or injure people but citizens are prosecuted and persecuted for speaking out against them—that is Un-American.
When a black criminal disobeys law enforcement and is shot by police and there is a public outcry while police officers are shot everyday for doing their jobs and media is silent—that is Un-American.
When the media takes it upon itself to slant the news and tell us what to think instead of reporting the news and trusting us to decide for ourselves what to think—that is Un-American.
When liberal head explodes at the use of a word in describing a third world country while cities in this country resemble these third world countries and nothing is being done to improve the lives of citizens in these cities— that is Un-American.
When a political party would rather protect 8,000 illegal aliens than protect the citizens of this country and even go as far to threaten a government shut-down and deprive the elderly and military of their money— that is Un-American.
It appears that some of our leaders are more concerned about themselves and the special interest groups that has bought them  than the citizens that elected them and that is not only Un-American but unacceptable to the the citizens of this country that are counting on the leadership.
Friends, I have been told that, as a Christian, I should not be political. I am not a political person but what I see goes beyond politics. It is now about our survival as a country and the fabric of our way of life. I once read “All it takes for evil to spread is for good men to do nothing.” I am only trying to do my small part to stop the spread of evil.
As always you are free to disagree but I am free to express my opinion. May God bless you all. . Just saying

AMERICA - The Two Sided Country

There is a question we all need to think about. It makes no difference if you are a republican, democrat, conservative, or liberal. The question is so important and it is for the American people to think on. “WHAT HAS HAPPEN TO AMERICA?” Is this the same America we all grew up in or are we missing something. Are we a two-sided country? If we look at how things are done in this country that is exactly what we are.

If a white man does not like a black man the white man is a racist. If a black man does not like a white man it is their first amendment right. If an American citizen tells a lie to congress they will be arrested for committing a crime. If a senator lies to the citizen it is called politics. The federal government using the taxpayers’ money spends untold amounts of money on prisons and prisoners, but not a cent on their victims. We can kill a helpless unborn child in the mother’s womb, but people will protest the execution of a mass murder or the killing of a wild animal in some other country. We can use the fetus of an unborn child but you had better not use that of an animal because it would be called animal cruelty.  In the public schools, our children are taught the homosexual is okay, but you had better not mention God’s name in the process or bring a Bible to school.

We do not burn books like some countries did some decades ago. We just re-write history to our liking and make new books. We got rid of the communist and the socialist threat in this country. That was easy. We now call them progressives. Something else I do not understand. For decades American soldiers have been protecting the South Korean border while we cannot protect our own border with Mexico from drugs, illegal immigrants, and gangs that will kill you in a heartbeat.

If you protested against Barrack Hassan Obama’s policies you were a traitor to this country, but if a person burns an American Flag or a statue of Donald Trump it is their 1st amendment right. The TV, movie theatres, and the internet is loaded with pornography and all sort of filth for our kids to see but you had better not put a nativity scene, a cross, or anything to do with Jesus Christ or Christmas in any public place.

The government takes money from the people who work and gives it to people who do not work. Now in some cases that is the thing to do because some people need help. If a person is disabled we should help them. Sad to say over half the people could work but will not work in a pie shop testing pies. We call riots protest when in fact it is breaking the law. The burning of buildings and destroying property is not protesting. It is breaking the law. The only thing not stolen in a shoe store, during riots, is the work boots. Our country has become a country of handouts for the “WHAT YOU GOING TO GIVE ME” crowd.

All Americans will say they support our constitution but the fact is half the people will only support it when it supports whatever their agenda is and as far as freedom of speech goes you had better be politically correct.  Our kids are being dumbed down by Ritalin when a large percentage does not need Ritalin, only correction and discipline. Kids are started on video games at an early age and the older they become the more violet the games become. America’s children are the future of this country. Parents need to bring them up in the way they should go.  America’s downfall will not come from Russia, China, or some other country it will come from within.

Armed teenage heroes

During the 2016 presidential election cycle, Hillary Clinton professed that half of Donald Trump’s supporters belong in a “basket of deplorables.” Based upon her statement, it may be reasonable to conclude that Hillary’s followers, in the liberal wing of politics, find that those voters who oppose gun control on purchases by citizens less than 21 years of age should also be thrown into the basket of deplorables. However, the history of our nation expresses a strong and vibrant case for preteens and teens owning and using guns in a responsible manner. The most glaring examples are noted during times of military conflict when this age group rises to the occasion of preserving liberty and uses weapons of war in protection of our republican form of government.
In the Revolutionary War, Jeremiah Levering, age 12, along with hundreds of other soldiers 16 years and younger, fought the British to secure our freedom from the King of England.
Joseph Burger, a 14-year-old Union Army soldier who fought in the American Civil War, received the United States’ highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor. Burger also received a battlefield commission to the rank of captain at the age of 15.
During World War II, the Alaska National Guard was called up into the Army of the United States. As a result, the territorial governor, in seeking to protect Alaska’s border, called for local citizens to rise to the occasion to defend against an invasion by Japan. With their own guns in hand, citizens of all ages, including preteens and teens, organized into a 6,300-member volunteer militia known as the Eskimo Scouts/Alaska Territorial Guard. When the Japanese invaded Alaska, bombing Dutch Harbor and occupying four of the Aleutian Islands, it was the bravery exhibited by teenagers, preteens as young as 12, and others in the Eskimo Scouts which resulted in repelling the Japanese through combat operations.
Bringing this type of citizen militia closer to our home, the governor of Maryland, in response to the absence of the Maryland National Guard, called on citizens, using their own firearms, to form into “Minuteman” units. In a 1942 photograph of the fourteen Tilghman Island Minutemen shown training with rifles, one of those volunteers was a young teenager.
Additionally, there were many heroes in World War II who were teenagers. Among them was a 16-year-old Marine, Bernard Hoffendaffer, who fought at the Battle of Iwo Jima and after the war became a Methodist preacher serving six churches in West Virginia; Audie Murphy, the most decorated soldier in World War II, who at age 19 was awarded the Medal of Honor and after the war became a Hollywood legend; Calvin Leon Graham, who at age 12 was the youngest to serve in the U.S. Navy, received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals for his bravery and wounds received during the Battle of Guadalcanal; and George H.W. Bush, a bomber pilot, who at 19 years of age was the youngest Naval aviator in history and was wounded in combat. Bush later became President of the United States.
During the Korean War, David Hackworth, at 15 years of age, was given a battlefield commission to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.
During the Viet Nam War, David A. Christian, a 19-year-old 2nd Lieutenant led many search and destroy combat missions. Wounded seven times, Lieutenant Christian was among the most decorated soldiers of that war.

People Still Do Not Get It

This article is in response to Mary Dolan’s guest comment (March 30th) in the Star Democrat. While I do agree with her about there is a problem with fire arms in this country I disagree that school children are the ones to handle it. We read several articles in different papers and on the news channels about kids protesting gun violence at their schools, the capital, and other places. For the most part these are the same kids we read about in the papers and across in the news media that were eating Tide-Pods and the government wanting to solve that problem by changing how the product was packaged. How many of these kids even know what they are protesting. How many of them can even tell you what the constitution is and what it is for. How many can tell you if we live in a republic or a democracy.  I am sure some can, but not that many. We have violence all across our nation in many different forms. We always want to blame the problems of our country on everything but the true cause, In other words the root of the problem. The problem really goes back to the same kids that are protesting, maybe not all of them but the biggest majority of them. The problem is how they are raised.

To make this country great there must be building blocks and a good foundation. The foundation of any nation is the family unit. The family unit has kids raising their own self and that is not the way it should be. They need structure, guidance, and being taught right from wrong. You can have all the Great Societies you want but without a family structure, and a good foundation it will amount to nothing. We have so many violent video games today that are front line examples why some kids do what they do. Hollywood does not help much either.

More kids die today from drugs, texting while driving, and alcohol than from these school shootings but it is only when guns are brought into the mix is there mass protest. What about the bullying problem in our schools today. It is a problem, but it is a well hid problem. But it is there. It is foolish for anyone to think that drugs, guns, cell phones and cars are the problem. It is the adult, teenager, or young person who is behind those things that is the problem. To prove the point let us look at it this way. A person left his shotgun on his porch, the mailman delivered the mail, kids were in the street playing, the garbage truck picked up the trash, and no one got shot. The gun was still sitting on the porch. Or how about this, a teenager was driving down the road with cell phone on the seat not being used and no one was killed or injured.

Why is there no protesting the FBI for not acting on reports they received about the shooter at the Florida school, the sheriff department who received 39 calls over a period of time about the same shooter, and the most scary is the school system that know who and what this kid was and did nothing over the years to help him, finally expelling him. The whole problem and event should have been investigated before the fact not after the fact.

My thoughts are there is more behind the protests by these teenagers than meets the eye. A person must wonder is there some other reason behind all this and are the teenagers just being used. To set the record straight from the start I do not own any guns, I do not belong to the NRA, and I am not a Republican or Democrat. I am a independent person that can think for myself.

Just The Facts

Remember the old TV program “DRAGNET” with Jack Webb? One of his famous lines was “Just the facts”. So let us deal with just the facts today in this article.

There are so many articles in the local newspaper lately about gun control that would make a person think that there is an agenda by the left to remove guns from this country. I never realized or knew how big this movement was until I read several different articles in the paper. There are never are any articles about pro-gun just anti Gun. People, especially teenagers, will protest without knowing all the facts, without even knowing why they are protesting. Some teenagers were asked what they were protesting and they could not even answer. They only protest what they hear or see and because other people are doing it, without ever checking the facts. These teenagers are better known as the Tide-Pod generation. It is called the dumbing down of our kids. Before they protest about anything, including guns, they should be required to study the Constitution of the United States.

For example, we had school kids all over the country [on a certain day] walking out of school protesting the recent shootings in schools. I wonder how many of these students would have protested if the protest were held not during school hours. The media was all over the story about kids walking out in protest but nothing was said about some kids in schools having a walk in instead of a walk out. What more can you expect from a liberal press? There was some difference of opinion over the issue of gun control and the violence caused by these shootings but the American people read only one side of the issue. How in just a short time could there have been such a walkout all across this nation? The answer is, it was planned and put into effect as soon as the school shooting happened by liberals and progressives who want to see the confiscation of guns in this country.

At one school kids were so unruly during the walkout they destroyed an American flag which is all a part of the liberal agenda and then tried to assault a police officer. The very flag they destroyed represents the very means that allows them to protest.

They were protesting, if that was what you could call it, and most of them knew nothing of what they were protesting. By that I mean the deep roots of why they were protesting are not being brought to the front. I am not afraid to say there is a bigger issue behind all of this and it is not about gun violence. There was a picture in the paper of a girl holding a sign that said: “Eighteen Century laws can’t regulate 21st-century weapons”. Down through the history of this country, our constitution has done a pretty good job so far. What law or amendment does she want to go next? These signs are right out of the communist playbook. After the guns go the liberals will have the Holy Bible gone and their version will replace it.

How about the fact that there are 11 kids a day killed in this country a day because of texting on their cell phones while driving. That is over 4000 thousands kids a year being killed by texting and driving. I guess we should ban cell phones from kids and while we are at it automobiles too because they are part of the blame for this sad waste of human life. Another sign held by another kid said; ”we want education without fear of annihilation”. I also would like that same thing whenever I drive to the store or drive to church without the fear of being killed by a teenager texting while driving.

The sad truth here is most kids are being dumb down by a liberal agenda that are using gunning violence as a platform to promote their agenda. It is sad when liberals’ have to use our kids to promote their communist agenda. It is the liberals’ in this country that are trying to mobilize our kids for their cause. More time should be spent on teaching the history of this country and what it stands for. But what is happening is some of our histories is being deleted out of our history books and our school curriculum. What percentage of kids in this country even know what the Constitution is and what it stands for, sad to say a very few if any.

The issue is not about gun control. It is about controlling a nation of free people by taking away the only means of keeping ourselves free. Some people will laugh at that statement. But it is the truth. History is trying to repeat itself right in our backyards and most people cannot even see it. We only need to look at Russia, Germany, China, Cambodia, Cuba, and many other nations. Look at what happened to them. The guns were taken and then the real slaughter began. Millions were murdered because they protested the governments of these countries. This is the same road America is going down. A gentleman from Scotland wrote, to the local newspaper and said This; America has no need of people running around with guns. He also stated we have a most capable military to protect us. This is true. We have the finest military to protect us from all outside threats but not from the Trojan horse which is getting bigger in our country.  That is the reason for the second amendment and the reason for our Constitution.

Lastly, I read an article in the local paper about a church that was having a prayer vigil against gun violence. That may be fine, but the church [all churches] needs to go above and beyond this. The sad thing is their mind is dull and they are being deceived. Any Bible believing church knows there is more to be done than just a prayer vigil against gun violence. The roots of the problem go a lot deeper than gun violence. It is called THE SIN PROBLEM; which is an all-inclusive word for Rebellion against God and His Word. The history of the world, as eyed through the Bible and some other good history books, plainly show the fact that when God is in control the nation prospers and when God is not in control there is evil, violence, and every sin a person can imagine. My friends God is not in control of America. We have forsaken Him. We as a people have turned our backs on him and now we are reaping what we have sown.  America is now reaping for the killing of millions of unborn children in the womb, the removing of anything that pertains to God from our schools and government buildings, and the promoting of homosexual lifestyles in the schools and in government, which clearly are against God’s laws. Our government and sad to say most of our churches are falling short of preaching and upholding the truth and the Constitution of this country.

It is true that the United States is 3rd in murders throughout the world, but if you remove Chicago, Washington, DC., Detroit, St. Louis, and New Orleans look what happens. The United States comes in at 189th out of 193 countries in the entire world. And what is more amazing is the five cities mentioned here have the most strict gun control laws in the nation. Now please tell me about people wanting to pass more gun control laws. The true problem in this country is not the need for more laws. It is THE SIN PROBLEM.

Teachers Were Always Armed

I know that statement will turn some heads, but the fact is it is true. How do I know this to be true? Let me start with my history teacher. She was armed with a large book about three inches thick and would not fail to bend you over a chair and administer ones due rewards.  Then there was my third grade teacher who was armed with a twelve inch ruler that reached out and touched someone when they needed it.  Then there was my six grade teacher who would raise her arm and point her finger and you would not see recess for a while let alone daylight. Then there was the dreaded paddle at the principals’ office that brought with it all the respect that was needed in that high office. If a child was unruly on the bus he was put off and got home the best way he could. And when we got home from school we knew we were going to get our just rewards once again.
Am I trying to make teachers look bad, not at all? The teachers who are mentioned above were the most kind, considerate, loving people who focused on the task at hand and that was giving kids the education they needed. The difference is there was order in the classroom, and in the halls. Just like in today’s world the teachers back then were not given the credit they deserved, but there is a big difference between the two different time periods in this country’s school history.
The ills of our school system in this country can be blamed on no one but the federal government and its system of how we are to raise our kids. The government has usurped the school’s authority to give our kids a good education. A student must have the right environment to receive a good education and discipline must be a part of that environment.  This is not happening in our school system.
The government, as I have said in the past, wants you to believe it takes a village to raise a child. This was one of Hilary Clinton’s famous sayings. While there may be some small merit to that statement we must realize it is the family unit and how it is structured is the foundation for raising our kids. When a child is raised correctly in the home that will show when they are out in public and in the school system which they attend. They will dress properly, conduct their self properly, and be a blessing to their family in their home and in the school which they attend.
Teachers have an impossible task today of trying to teach most kids because the kids do not see the school as a place of learning but a place to gather and socialize. For the most part respect has gone out the door. The standards for our schools and for our homes must be raised.
The problems in our schools are blamed on guns, teachers, bus drivers, and many other things when the real problem is the structure of the family unit. How we see kids behave in school, for the most part, is how they behave at home.  This is the root of the problem.
Let us arm our teachers, bus drivers, and other school personal with the authority they need to maintain a good environment in our schools. If we do this there will be no need of arming our teachers with hand guns and police patrolling the halls.
